May was another fun month here at Learning Garden!
The Seniors went on an exciting trip to Ripley’s Aquarium at the beginning of the month. We boarded the school bus, and drove downtown pointing out landmarks and sights like the CN Tower, Go Train and Lake Ontario! The children loved seeing the different exotic fish, sharks, giant turtles, swordfish and string rays! They loved crawling through the tunnel and being surrounded by sea creatures on all 4 sides. They even saw a scuba diver in one of the tanks who waved to the children and did flips in the water.
We also had in Caitlin Clessens for another music workshop. The kids loved singing and dancing with her and using fun props like egg shakers and scarves. We book a different guest for enrichment every month spanning the fields of dance, yoga, music, sport, drama and art. The kids love getting exposed to these different fields and the teachers get exposed to new ideas that they can incorporate in their everyday programming.
We ended the month with a whole lot of gardening! The kids sent home special Mother’s day flowers that they planted themselves in April and got to watch grow from seed to bud. They also planted their room gardens, and we are excited to care for and taste the organic vegetables grown right here in our playgrounds. We think gardening is such a great learning tool for children (like our name!) as they learn responsibility, how to care for the earth, and are involved from the ground up as we encourage a healthy lifestyle.
