We asked Dani and Jamie Wilson, Toddler Skye’s parents, if they would contribute a post as they run Body Buster Fitness, successful fitness boot camps, locally throughout Etobicoke, Toronto and Mississauga. They have some great tips as working parents trying to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle!


Hello Learning Garden Parents and Families,

Everyone seems to know by now that maintaining an active lifestyle should be near the top of our priority list in life. Only by taking care of ourselves do we stand a chance of being the kind of person we aim to be on the job, at home with our families, and in our communities. But it’s not easy. It can be hard to motivate yourself to work out even during the best of times. Even when you have no outside stresses, obligations, or any other sort of excuse. When you add kids, high stress jobs and and our ever increasing fast paced lifestyles to the mix, it makes finding the time and motivation to work out even more challenging.

Here are some tips for busy people to help keep a successful and healthy workout routine:

*Make a schedule (write it down if it helps!), stick to it, and remind yourself that working out is a priority worth keeping. Schedule your workout in like a business meeting. You’re the boss of your health…and bosses don’t skip business meetings!

*Wake up earlier! You can do it! Schedule your workout in the morning before your hectic work day starts. Chances are, you’ll be more energetic, happy and ready to take on the day! Even better – workout before the kids wake up! This way you’ll really be able to take advantage of “you time”!

*Squeeze in workouts wherever you are. You’ve heard it before: take the stairs, park further away from the store or do a quick 10 minute workout. Something is always better than nothing in regards to exercise.

*Plan your meals. There are so many things you can make quickly that will help make sure your meals are ready fast!  If you spend a couple hours Sunday night, you can get breakfast for the week taken care of, school lunches out of the way, have fresh fruit and vegetables ready to snack on or for smoothies, and have pasta or grilled chicken and vegetables ready to add to any meal!  

Just think, if you are not strong, healthy, and feeling good, you won’t be able to accomplish all the things that need to be done for you and everyone else who may be tugging at your schedule. And remember, people who are busier than you are MAKING time to exercise.

The Body Buster Fitness program holds classes throughout Etobicoke, Toronto and Mississauga with classes at 6am, 9:30am, 6:30pm and 7:30pm.  Members who attend Body Buster classes receive a most efficient workout power-punched into one hour of the day a few times per week. Did you know that 1 hour is only 4% of your entire day? Body Buster members also benefit from having a special make up class system. We understand that “life gets in the way sometimes”! This is why we have worked hard to make the Body Buster program flexible to suit busy schedules and accommodate last minute obligations or emergencies. Make up your missed class at another time/location/day. This leaves little room for excuses while holding you accountable to get all your classes in!
